If you have been following my Instagram stories for a while now you might now that I'm a huge morning person; from my "Early Bird" mug, to the pictures I share of my morning drink with the beautiful rays of the sun. Nothing like that morning golden light!
Ever since I finished my university studies and I work from home mornings just got so much better, but before that there were some things that still remain. My morning elixir included.
At the beginning of my nutrition studies I started to experiment with macronutrient portions and different foods, fasting too. My low carb and intermittent fasting journey goes a while back, around 4 years now.
There were a few personal reasons I decided to go low carb and fast, but convenience and the deep celular impact were the main reasons:
Autophagy, the process of your body getting rid of old cells.
Cognitive boost
Reduction of inflammation
We know that fasting has their benefits, although I'm a huge advocate of being intuitive with your body. Fasting works for me, but as a nutritionist I know that part of following a low carb/keto diet supplementing minerals is essential.
Reasons why supplementing minerals is important:
We loose minerals through sweat.
Cooking veggies can reduce of minerals in them.
Vegetables and other foods contain anti-nutrients that avoid our bodies from absorbing nutrients.
You are following a low carb/keto diet.
To boost your energy
Overall health!
I think that minerals are one of the most underrated nutrients, we focus on the macros that we forget on how essential these are; from a headache, lack of energy, hormones out of whack and overall nutrition.
Staying hydrated is important, water is essential but sometimes water is not enough because it doesn't contain minerals, we also need magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, sodium and chloride.
What these minerals will do in our bodies:
Prevent cramps
Support bone health
Support oxigen movement
Muscle movement
Reduce the risk of fractions
Minerals are the little guys that interact with our cells and the impact they have is huge!
For a while I have been drinking this elixir that I will show you below in my mornings and in my afternoons, and honestly you won't ever tell this is a keto friendly and nourishing drink. It's just amazing!
For this drink I have been using Electrolyte Drink Powder because the taste is amazing and I can easily find them at Amazon, they have a lot of delicious flavors while having no calories or artificial ingredients. WINNING!
It would be hard to pick a favorite one but at the moment I have been loving the Peach Mango one, Cherry Lime is also GOOD and orange one is great on chocolate treats. And the good thing is that they also contain the six minerals I mentioned earlier:
Magnesium
Potassium
Phosphorus
Calcium
Sodium
Chloride
You can prepare this drink at any moment of the day, great to add it to your morning routine if you intermittent fast or not, after a workout, an afternoon delicious pick-me-up drink. If you haven't tried hibiscu tea wow, you must now! It taste amazing and packed with antioxidants!
Overall this drink is packed with all the anti-inflammatory gems! Also great to keep that immune system sharp!
Hibiscus tea
Ginger
Turmeric

So for all the pecan and cookie fans, are you ready to get started? Don't forget to share, pin, save or bookmark this recipe! Remember to spread the joy and this recipe, anyways, have a great day everyone!
